This is the time of year for pruning the fruit trees. This day saw the start of the pruning of the pear tree orchard to the Southwest of me. This is a good thing, and I'll tell you why: these trees have been standing in this orchard for as long as I can remember, and that goes back quite a few years. But I am quite aware that all things must come to an end sometime, and I do not look foreword to the day this orchard is torn out, as it most surely will be some day. These trees are old. But when I see the pruners out there in the cold December air pruning, I am reassured that the orchard will be there at least one more year. I like a good orchard; they make a good neighbor. Looking for a hard freeze tonight...27 or
